OBAMA wants to withdraw most combat troops from Iraq within 16 months, but he has left the door open to staying longer if conditions require it for the safety of American troops. He now acknowledges that the surge has succeeded "beyond anyone's expectations," but says there needs to be more political progress. He says he would hold more high-level talks with longtime foes of the U.S. to open communication channels, although he says he would not use such talks to negotiate with sworn enemies.

McCAIN says he'd keep troops in Iraq as long as necessary to achieve victory and suggests that could be in four years, but he's recently been suggesting the success of the surge will allow an early start to withdrawal. McCain would likely come under intense public and congressional pressure to speed up a withdrawal. Despite campaign rhetoric to the contrary, McCain, too, would step up diplomatic contacts with foes.

On Afghanistan, McCAIN and OBAMA both favor sending two to three more brigades of U.S. troops to fight the Taliban and al Qaeda. They also favor military and economic assistance to Afghan leaders and more pressure on Pakistan to crack down from its side of the border. McCAIN says the surge tactics being used in Iraq will work in Afghanistan as well. OBAMA says there needs to be more emphasis on economic aid to rebuild the country's infrastructure.

I will admit I do not have a full knowledge or complete comprehension on the foreign affairs subject. I am not sure are politicians do either though. I do know the USA have items and services the rest of the world wants and/or needs. On the same note there seems to be desire and/or need for some of there items here in the USA. I understand that terrorism of all sorts should be sought out and destroyed. What I don’t understand is why we feel that the US always has to be the big brother that takes the lead and seems to have to worry about what the rest of the world thinks of us after the decision has been implemented. My blanket belief is if the vote is to go to war then go in and win. There is no reason to tip toe around the bleeding heart and the non committal people. I diffidently do not believe going to war and trying to protect a foreign country from them there own people. I do not believe in letting another country take over the USA because theirs is in a bad spot. Our ancestors fought the English rule to gain our rights and independence. Then we fought among ourselves to become UNITED. We called it a civil war. Nobody fought either one of our wars for us. So I say either take control of our over seas war occupied interests or pack our troops up and put them in place we need them. The home soil here in the USA would be one place. By no means should we ever spend any money to rebuild any foreign place we just were at war in. Invited or not let them finance there own recovery. As you will see through out my beliefs this beautiful USA is way over drawn already. I will offend some, but the same goes for all the soils we are trying to “save”. Need inspires invention. They too will figure it out. Now I think by acting on these starting points in the foreign opinion the troops will be coming home and the ILLEGAL ALIANS will be sent back to there places of origin.
