OBAMA would sign new bills making it easier for unions to organize, indexing the minimum wage to inflation and expanding the law on family and medical leave. He also backs expanding the scope and application of the plant closing notification law.

McCAIN would oppose new policies deemed to be overly burdensome to business. Any McCain veto of a labor bill would be difficult for Democrats in Congress to override.

If we are a capitalist society with a free market system, why would the government need to steer towards/away from unions. Unions are a joke! Just look at our dying automobile and airline industries...largely due to unions! You think GM or Ford can compete with Honda's low overhead?

I agree. Unions are responsible for a good portion of manufacturing being driven overseas. How ironic that they were founded to protect the workers.

I concur with the other two posters. Unions have become nothing but labor cartels in recent years, forcing companies to go offshore and costing plenty of non-union people their jobs. We don't need laws making it easier to organize, we have plenty. If anything should be done for labor, pass some laws making it easier to move from company to company like eliminating vesting requirements on retirement accounts. That way a worker can leave a job for a better one just as easily as an employer can fire an employee for a better one.

Another John here,

Unions are only good for those that fall under the blanket of security that they offer. Imagine the entire US workforce under one union-like labor force...it'll happen if we keep leaning towards a socialist society. Unfortunetly, there is a disease in a America that is spreading; the disease that people want Uncle Sam to take care of them, as opposed to going out and pursuing the American Dream themself. Sad, but true.
