Huckabee's Overlooked Comments on Obama

Comments (7) |

He's no longer running for president, so it's no surprise that the comments of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a former Baptist pastor, didn't get more than passing notice when he spoke out Friday on the controversy involving Barack Obama and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. But Huckabee's comments may surprise a lot of people.

In an interview with MSNBC, Huckabee was asked about criticism of Obama for not disavowing Wright many years. go. He said, in part:

"As easy as it is for those of us who are white to look back and say 'That's a terrible statement' -- I grew up in a very segregated South. And I think that you have to cut some slack -- and I'm going to be probably the only conservative in America who's going to say something like this, but I'm just telling you -- We've got to cut some slack to people who grew up being called names, being told you have to sit in the balcony when you go to the movie, you have to go to the back door to go into the restaurant, you can't sit out there with everyone else. There's a separate waiting room in the doctor's office. Here's where you sit on the bus.

And you know what? Sometimes people do have a chip on their shoulder and resentment, and you have to just say, 'I probably would, too.'"

His complete comments were reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Mike Huckabee is super talented person.

The liberal media is scared out of their wits of Mike Huckabee. He is the only person with superb skills that can win over the hearts and minds of American's and they know it.

The liberal media is shivering in their shoes of the thought of having someone who is so kind, honest, humble and trustworthy lead the people.

If you voted for Mike Huckabee in the primaries, keep up the crusade for Mike Huckabee by voting for him as VP on this poll. He will lead America up with vertical politics. He will lead America to new hope and to higher ground.

The news media might be wise, as Kiplinger has been, to listen more closely to what Huckabee has to say for the same reason his warning at the beginning of his campaign was not heeded. If you research Huckabee, you'll find that he was the only candidate, at the very beginning of his campaign, to warn us that there was a very real possibility of an impending recession. Every other candidate painted a rosy picture of our economy. Huckabee tells it like it is. He is not afraid to tell the truth, even if he knows that it may not be received well by the public. He is consistent; he lives to serve, not to BE served, and he is beloved by the millions of us that are still 100% in support of him!! MIKE HUCKABEE for V.P.!!

I can understand why they were overlooked, he made light of hate speech from a so called preacher that happened to be black. As long as we keep making excuses for this type of speech from either side of any issue, the dialogue will continue to deteriorate in this country.
Get over past indescretions that happened to your ancestors. Look ahead and not behind or you will remain a product of the past and get left behind.

Huckabee did not make light of the comments made by Obama's pastor. In fact he made it very clear that what he said was unacceptable. What he DID say was that he can understand, maybe better than some (having been born in the south himself and very aware of the history of the black people), that there are (historical) reasons why some blacks feel this way. He did NOT agree that this was acceptable by any means! I agree with "Bert" in that the blacks need to put the past behind them and as Mike Huckabee would say, let's take this nation "vertically" UP and not continue "horizontally" along the same old lines of disagreements.
Mike Huckabee is the ONLY viable person to be president even if we, his loyal followers, have to wait another four years to see it happen!!!

I just finished watching the Decade of Duty series on Mike Huckabee. I think the videos can be found on youtube. If more Americans had been able to see this side of him they would have come to love him and respect him as my family has. He is first and foremost an experienced, qualified leader. He has a compassionate spirit and an undeniably great sense of humor. Watching how he dealt with the Katrina victims, brought tears to my eyes. He is all about the people. We couldn't have asked for a better President. I hope someday we get another chance to vote for him.

Jessica...Sorry I couldn't disagree with you more. I think Huckabeen is a very SCARY charlatan snake-oil salesman with the gift of BS. Just like another former Gov from Hope.

Huckabeen = #6 on Judicical Watch's list of TOP TEN MOST CORRUPT POLITICIAN OF 2007, along with Hillary Clinton (#1).

Huckabeen rasied a son who tortures animals, and Huckabeen didn't seem much concerned about it when asked on CNN about the barbaric incident of hanging the dog. "You will know them by their fruits." - The Bible

Summary version here--the list goes on.....
